Way to go!

All of our students have been working hard on their NWEA reading test! Thank you to each and every family for sending in an encouraging note for your child! It made a huge difference for them to start the day on a positive note and to know that it didn't matter if they met their goal or not, as long as they did their personal best they should be proud of themselves! Good luck to the rest of our students that will be finishing the test tomorrow morning!

NWEA TOMORROW

Tomorrow is our NWEA reading test! Our class is so excited and ready to blow our goals away! Tomorrow, students can wear their thinking caps to school! They can also bring gum to chew during the test if they would like.  Gum unfortunately cannot be shared or traded with other students.  Also, if you have not yet returned you student's positive NWEA note please make sure they bring it to school tomorrow so that they can start the day by reading your encouraging words before testing.  Let's go 3L!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!

As an incentive for students to remind their parents to fill our their NWEA baseballs with encouraging words before testing this week, all students that return their baseball to school by Wednesday will be able to clip off the chart and will also get a free ice cream from the cafeteria during lunch tomorrow!

Please make sure to fill our you child's baseball so that on the morning of the test they can read your encouraging words and start the day off on the right foot! Thank you for your support!

ATTN: PARENTS

Please check your child's yellow folder this evening.  You should find a letter regarding NWEA testing, a paper with a baseball on it, and a brown paper bag.  If you could please take a minute to fill out the baseball and return it to school in the paper bag ASAP I would greatly appreciate it.  I would hate for any student to not have a note to read on the morning of our first test.  Also, feel free to pass the baseball along to as many family members to write on as you would like! The more words of encouragement the better! Thank you for your support!

Field Day Captains!

The class voted and our field day captains are Connor and Taegan!

Parents: please keep an eye out for this letter coming home next week!

Dear Family,

NWEA and DIBELS testing is just around the corner! Thank you in advance for making sure that your child is in school on the days that our class is testing.  We will be testing on:
  • Thursday, May 26
  • Wednesday, June 1
  • Friday, June 3

The importance of a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast on the morning of the test cannot be stressed enough! In class, we will be reading Winner’s Never Quit by Mia Hamm.  Just like an athlete must always do their best and never give up, students must do the same!  Our theme for testing will be to be game day ready!

Athletes also need encouragement from their fans! That’s you! On the next page you will find a baseball.  Please write an encouraging note to your child inside the baseball.  Cut it out and return it to school in the attached paper bag so that your child cannot peek! On the morning of our test, I will give your note to your child to remind them that you believe in them!

Thank you,

Mrs. Largy

Making Metric Measurement Posters

In class, we have been learning about length, mass, and volume using metric measurements.  We have collected and recorded data.  We have also converted measurements.  As a review, students worked in groups to create posters.  They then made top down webs in computer lab.

Cleaning Wipes

Our class is in need or more clorox / antibacterial / wet wipes.  If you could please donate to our classroom we would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Measurement

Today, our class estimated the length and width of our class in meters.  We then worked together to find the actual size of our class.  We discovered that our class is 7 meters and 30 centimeters(or 730 centimeters) in width and 12 meters (or 1,200 centimeters) in length.  Ava and Brendan's estimations were the closest!

Next, we found the area and perimeter of our class using approximate measurements.  The area of our class is about 84 square meters and the perimeter of our class is about 38 meters.  Finally, we discussed how this information could be useful in real life.  For example, if we needed to paint our classroom or put in new flooring we would need to know this information.  What a fun time it was!
